Chor St. Johannis of Hamburg, Germany to Perform at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

featuring two Jazz works for Choir and Big Band

On March 9 at 7:30 p.m., the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels will welcome Chor St. Johannis of Hamburg Germany performing Missa Popularis, a composition by Claus Bantzer, noted composer and the choirs’ conductor.  This original work is written for choir and jazz ensemble.   Also featured in the program will be a world premier of the Kurt Marti Suite based on poems of the Swiss theologian Kurt Marti. Written by Grammy nominated composer, Chris Walden for Chor St. Johannis and his own big band.

The 70-member group touring Los Angeles in March, belong to the Lutheran parish of Saint John Hambug-Harvestehude Germany. The members of this lay choir come from a variety of professions and have achieved outstanding musical quality.  The choir has a diverse repertoire including both secular and sacred works.  Chor St. Johannis in addition to concert performance also sings at services at St. John’s.
