We Want to Hear From You: What Issues in Your Parish and the Region Concern You?
September 24, 2008
On October 21st, the Regional Council will be hosting a meeting with leaders from parishes within the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region to discuss the following two questions:
- What are the issues we are facing in our parish (or should be facing)?
- What are the issues we are facing in our region (or should be facing)?
You can join in the discussion by adding in your input in the comment box below or click here to read comments and submit your own.

I would love to see more shared resources among the parishes especially between parishes that are poor and those that are wealthier.

We need some mechanism to help us build leadership and volunteerism in our parish. The handful of volunteer leaders we do have are burnt out.

The fact that we are a Sacramental Church is lost on most, both pastors and parishioners. We are urged to be better Christians, but not told how, (i.e. the Sacraments, and the graces gained through Confession and a worthy Communion…not one of sacrilege.) Catholics are allowed to have their own opinions about abortion, birth control and other life issues, without, in most cases, guidance and truth speaking from the pulpit. A number of Bishops, stalwarts of the Church, have recently addressed this in strong statements. Truth is an inspiration and a great motivator. I believe when truth is spoken unashamedly and fearlessly, the Church in our area will grow in strength as it has in other areas. I hope this is addressed as it is the concern of a silent majority who are reluctant to voice it in the public forum, where political correctness and the vocal minority seem to rule. These are the Catholics who are loyal to and respectful of Pope Benedict and the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church, and the ones whose concerns are seldom brought up in these meetings.

I believe our main goal is and should be to see as many people as possible in heaven once the time comes for us to be there. Wouldn’t it be great to see all of our fellow parishioners in heaven?
We Catholics as a parish, as a region, as a whole should emphasis the way to salvation in the Mass. Possibly just before any announcements are given or before communion as some parishioners tend to leave after they take communion.
I believe those who don’t spend time in the word which are many, even though they come to Mass every Sunday understand little if at all, the way to salvation.
I really love the way our Lord Jesus Christ is worshiped in our Mass, but shouldn’t salvation be clearly pointed out to our parishioners, the body of Christ?
Isn’t this why Jesus Christ came down from the glory of heaven and became man, and who went through all the agony, suffering, and humiliation, and died on the cross for?
Isn’t this what he would want?
What a shame it would be if Jesus Christ did all of this for just a few souls. What a shame that would be if we couldn’t see all of our parishioners in heaven. What a shame if God gave up his one and only Son in return for a small harvest.
Shame on us if we don’t do what we were sent here to do especially if we know the way and keep it to ourselves!
God Bless Us All!

I would love to see more friendliness and unity at church. I actually feel offended by the snares and rudeness, even when offering one another peace. And fellowship? No one even says good morning. shame. I’m considering a new parish, my efforts are wasted.
